Houses in the city at present are getting smaller and smaller while the need for space is getting bigger and bigger. For a work-at-home mommy like me, we have no choice but to utilize our space to work for our multi-tasking roles.
I, for one, am a mother to a five-month old and there are times when in the middle of working, I have to prepare food and look after my kid.
For people like me, we have no choice but to work in the dining table. My husband hates this, as I have been known to leave my things in the corner while we eat.
If only I can build the following kitchen ideas in the future. (That’s my dream!)
But anyway, I compiled some absolutely loveable kitchen design ideas that are great food-for-thought if you (have to) multi-task like me!
1. The ‘movable’ Airstream kitchen office

This closely resembles the arrangement in my house. Except for the retractable computer (an iMac of course), the peek-a-boo drawer with printer and the couch-like arrangement of the seats. Oh, right! This is a completely different thing.
There’s 3 things I love about this: 1) you can do this in any dining area and 2) you don’t lose much valuable space because 3) you are making use of all available space!
Pretty nifty, don’t you think?
2. The ‘clutter free’ contemporary kitchen idea

My number one pet peeve is clutter. Coming close in second place is tangled cords. Try as I might, I really can’t get rid of both (although I am consciously doing it, at a minimum).
What I like about the kitchen office idea above is you can just shut the doors and voila! Say goodbye to any visual messy distractions.
Plus this design gets points for the many shelves – perfect for organizing stuff. And the door? Hmm, I can definitely see myself putting a sort of mood board here for my many ideas and Post-its. Love it!
Having a phone and computer station is just as important. When you get home, resist the urge to spend dinnertime on your cell phone as your sweetie chats with you about the day. Even if you think you’re hearing everything, odds are you aren’t. Commit to stashing your phone and computer in another room as soon as you get home from work. Keep the ringer on for important calls, but don’t sit around playing with your phone.

3. The ‘me-time’ super cosy kitchen office space

It’s cozy, it’s white, and it is tucked away in the corner. What’s not to love? The shelves above can be a place for your cookbooks, smoothie recipes, travel inspirations and other motivational notes.
What do I like about it? I like that the lack of horizontal space is made up by utilizing every bit of vertical space. What’s more, since it is tucked away in the corner, it is perfect for every mommy’s me time when you don’t want your kids or the hubster disturbing you!
4. The ‘genius’ kitchen ideas space

This space is just genius! What to do when you have two high shelves between the kitchen counter and the dining table? Your own kitchen office, of course!
It’s so subtle in that, when you have visitors, you can just put back your dining chair by the dining table and the space looks like it really belongs to the kitchen already – just like it’s not an office at all.
Office? What office?
5. The ‘inspirational’ kitchen design idea

This one right here is perfect for a contemporary kitchen. This may not be my style but if clean lines and an orderly look is your thing, then this kitchen office is just perfect for you.
I like the fact that the designer thought of putting framed photographs of, I am thinking, the user’s children. Just what every woman needs. An inspiration on her working table.

Like sleeping, sitting in your office chair could easily take 8 hours of your typical workday. Nothing is closer to the fact than cubicle denizens starting their day sitting, and ending it in the same position, often with very little variety of motion in between.

As a result, home offices of today are no longer just functional as they were in the past. They need to be pretty too if any work gets to be done efficiently!
